The Senate also had the same schedule this week because the only thing that can be done on the floor now in both the House and the Senate as we await bills to be heard in committees is a ceremonial recognition of visitors. The most important work being done right now is finalizing bill drafts, meeting with constituents, receiving briefing on the state agencies and issues our committees cover, and getting the appropriations bill finalized – none of which can be done while we convene for routine floor recognitions. My staff and I are there every day working on conservative legislative priorities. With committee meetings beginning in both the House and Senate next week, we will be convening daily as floor calendars are set. That said, it seems that the more the government meets, the worse off the citizens are so more government meetings are not always better.
