Fredericksburg Tea Party Annual Essay Contest

 Topic:   The Constitution and What It Means to Me

Who:  4 Patriotic High School Students

When:  Thursday, April 15, 2010

Where:  Marktplatz

Time: 11:30 – 2:00

 Fredericksburg Tea Party will be hosting their annual Tea Party Rally on Thursday, April 15, 2010.  The rally is a celebration of our republic and our U.S. Constitution.   During the program, we invite 4 local high school students to embrace civic responsibilities with creativity and enthusiasm.

Our Constitution is the highest law of the land and was written by our forefathers in an effort to give us the Republic that we have enjoyed for more that 200 years.

The Fredericksburg Tea Party will facilitate a contest between all eligible high school students in writing a 500-600 word essay entitled,  The Constitution and What It Means to Me.  The contest  will open on March 8, 2010. All entries must be submitted by April 5, 2010.  All winners will be required to read their winning essays as part of the Tea Party Rally program.  Each winner will receive a $100 cash prize.   Please see the attached rules.

Join us in encouraging our youth to share their thoughts about the Constitution and the founding of this wonderful republic.   We look forward to their participation!

 

The Fredericksburg Tea Party Annual Essay Contest is open to all High School Students.  Each year a $100 cash prize is awarded to four winners; one winner representing each grade level.

2010 – “The Constitution and What It Means to Me”

Essay Contest Rules

Length of essay:  Between 500-600 words.  The entry will be penalized if the essay does not conform to the required length.  All words are to be counted.  Students should write the essay so it is suitable for publication.

Eligibility:  Contest is open to High School students attending 9th through 12th grades.  Students must live within 60 miles of Fredericksburg.  The contest is sponsored by Fredericksburg Tea Party.  All entries become the property of Fredericksburg Tea Party.

A $100 cash prize will be awarded to each of the four winners.  Each winner MUST be able to read / present their winning essay as part of the Tea Party Rally program, April 15, 2010.

Contest Deadlines:  Entries must be mailed to Fredericksburg Tea Party.  Entries must be post-marked by April 5, 2010.

ESSAY CONTEST RULES

Length of essay: Between 500-600 words.  The entry will be penalized if the essay does not conform to the required length.  All words are to be counted, including the title.  All entries must be typed and titled.  Students should write the essay so it is suitable to be published.

Content – 55

            Knowledge of subject – 25

            Originality – 15

            Subject matter will organized/clarity of presentation – 15

Composition – 30

            Vocabulary – 20

            Conformance to length – 10

Manuscript – 15

            Wallet-size photograph, name, address, phone number, school attending, grade,

                        List of extracurricular activities – 10

            Neatness – legibility (a plastic folder keeps the manuscript neat) – 5

Contest Deadline

Entries must be postmarked by April 5, 2010.
